The news was announced on the young woman’s Instagram by a friend. In a post along with a photo of White, the woman reports “with great sadness” that “Makena passed away earlier this week.”
“Her father, her family, her friends, and of course, Nelly and Fergie miss her deeply,” he continued.
In closing, White’s friend points out that anyone wishing to honor Makena’s memory can make donations to the Bruyère Clinic for Brain Health and Memory or the Griffin Bell Endowment Fund.
The cause of death has not yet been released.
White and Knapp had been dating for two years. The world’s number 80 golfer had won the Mexican Open last year, his only victory on the PGA Tour.
Makena White had nearly 13,000 followers on Instagram. She was very active on social media. Her last post was a photo of herself and Knapp celebrating their two-year relationship.
“Second year of cuddling on the fairway and watching you live your dreams. Second season in the books. Forever grateful to be on this journey with you. Here’s to many more! Love you so much, baby, you make it so easy to be proud,” she wrote in the post.
A dog fanatic, Makena often shared updates on Instagram about her vacations and moments with Knapp, with her father, or playing golf, among other activities.
Knapp didn’t address the issue on his social media, but many close associates have already expressed their condolences in the comments on his latest Instagram post.
