Situation Update
The ongoing hostilities in Lebanon is disproportionately aecting the health sector due to the attacks on healthcare workers, facilities, and institutions. The Ministry of Public Health has recently published, since the onset of hostilities up to 24 October 2024, a total of 80 attacks on hospitals and primary health centers in Lebanon. 36 hospitals were directly aected, and as an immediate impact 63 hospitals and primary healthcare centers were forcibly closed, while 7 hospitals are partially operating. These attacks have resulted in 12 deaths and 60 injuries of healthcare workers, as well as damage to 24 vehicles. Furthermore, emergency medical services (EMS) teams are also facing signicant challenges due to increased risks and their exposure. There have been 201 reported attacks on these teams, resulting in 151 deaths and 212 injuries. The attacks have also impacted 51 medical centers, 158 ambulances, 57 re trucks, and 15 rescue vehicles. The ongoing violence against health facilities, emergency medical services (EMS) and ambulances is hindering the rescue and relief eorts, and ultimately contributing to high death rates.
