Janey Godley has died aged 63. The comedian and actress lost her life following a cancer battle.
Her management has confirmed that she died in hospital “surrounded by her loved ones.”
In a statement, her manager Chris Davis said: “It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our client Doctor Janey Godley on 2nd November.
“She will be hugely missed by her family, friends and her many fans.
“She will be remembered for her legendary voiceovers of Nicola Sturgeon during the pandemic, her hilarious and outspoken comedy, but most of all for just being ‘Janey’.”
Back in September of this year, the Scottish star heartbreakingly shared that she was on end of life care, as her ovarian cancer had sadly spread.
In a deeply moving video shared on X, formerly known as Twitter, Janey opened up about transitioning into palliative care after originally being diagnosed in 2021.
The comedian spoke frankly about her situation, acknowledging the grim reality that her treatment options have been exhausted.
She told fans: “The chemo ran out of options, and I couldn’t take anymore of it.
“The cancer has spread, so it looks like this will be getting to near the end of it, and it’s really difficult to speak about this and say it to people. It is devastating news, to know that I’m facing end of life but we all come to an end some time.”
Janey added: “I don’t know how long I’ve got left before anybody asks, I’m not a tick tock, I just want you all to know that I appreciate all the love you’ve gave me. Cancer affects one in two people and it’s affected me.”
On October 31, Janey’s daughter, Ashley, shared that her mum was in the “final beats of life”. Breaking a few days of silence on her social media accounts, the comedian’s daughter posted on her mother’s behalf.
She shared: “Thank you @UofGlasgow for bestowing upon my mum the honorary degree of doctor of the University of Glasgow.
“This has brought her so much joy in the final beats of her life. Janey is so honoured, and I am so immensely proud of her.”
Ashley is Janey’s only daughter with her husband Sean Storrie who she has been married to since 1980 when she was just 19.
Ashley has followed in her mother’s footsteps to become a stand-up comedian and BBC Radio Scotland host.
Janey has had an expansive career from stand up shows to presenting. She worked as a co-presenter on BBC Radio 4’s Loose Ends, as well as fronting BBC Radio 4 series The C Bomb.
In 2023 the star won the inaugural Sir Billy Connolly Spirit of Glasgow Award at the Glasgow International Comedy Festival.
