Winter: your dream destination

winter

You don’t know where to go this winter. According to a study conducted by Airbnb, several French cities will be popular this season. Among them are ski resorts, but not only that. Many French people seek to visit a small town in particular, which is also listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Airbnb, a peer-to-peer rental giant, has just revealed the results of a study announcing which French cities will delight the tourism industry this winter. A perfect guide to inspire us when it comes to travel, this ranking has also shed light on a small, little-known French town. Hint: It is not a southern town but rather a city belonging to the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region.

Ski resorts are always popular vacation spots in winter

Whoever says snow vacation, says mountain vacation. Obviously, ski resorts are, once again, on the rise with the French, according to the ranking produced by Airbnb. To calculate the latter, the rental company based its analysis on searches carried out by vacationers from January 1 to September 15, 2023, for arrival dates between November 1 and December 31, 2023 in France, while comparing the results obtained with those of 2022.

In terms of ski resorts, the winner is La Plagne Tarentaise, which belongs to the Paradiski area, one of the largest ski areas in the world. Not far behind, other mountain villages formed the top 10, such as Annemasse, arriving in 3rd place, Montvalezan, who finished in 6th place, and even Valmeinier, who finished 8th in the ranking, but also Tignes, arriving in 9th place.

A Rhône town among the French’s favorite destinations this winter

Among this winter’s key destinations, a small town listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site has stood out. This year, rather than going for winter sports, the trend is to move away from the mountain, while nevertheless remaining in the heart of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, which is definitely very popular with the French, according to Airbnb. Not located in a ski area, the town of Villefranche-sur-Saône particularly caught the eye of vacationers this year.

Located 35 kilometers north of the city of Lyon, the capital of Beaujolais is as much appreciated for its village life as for its quiet but lively daily life. In Villefranche-sur-Saône, you can stroll through the city’s large covered market, stroll through the Paul-Dini Museum or the Maison du Patrimoine, or have fun with family or friends in one of the many escape games there in the municipality.
